Spotlight on Punta Mita

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, is back on the radar for world travelers. And with good reason. This easy-to-get-to tropical paradise offers beachside luxury, outdoor adventures on land and at sea and a rich culture. There are multiple resorts and villa choices from which to choose, for all style of traveler, but if it’s true indulgence you seek, consider nearby Punta Mita.

Why Punta Mita Will Spoil You

About 25 miles north of Puerto Vallarta in the Riviera Nayarit, Punta Mita is set on a 1,500-acre private peninsula. The exclusive community is home to multi-million-dollar villas, gated residential neighborhoods, two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses, a tennis center and five-star luxury resorts, including the acclaimed St. Regis Punta Mita Resort and Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.

This is where to come if you want the beauty of the Puerto Vallarta area, but are seeking peace and tranquility. Even during the height of the vacation season, Punta Mita feels intimate and the perfect spot to relax and rejuvenate (the spas at the resorts certainly help in this regard!).

For those who find accommodation along the west-facing coastline of the peninsula (there are a variety of private villas and resorts here), there are swimmable beaches, plus surfing, scuba diving, windsurfing and paddle boarding. On the eastern side, you’ll have remarkable views of Banderas Bay.

Where Should I Stay in Punta Mita?

While there are several exclusive residential enclaves and luxury brand resorts, we particularly love the St. Regis Resort for its friendly service in an oasis-like setting. Casita-style rooms boast private terraces and soaking tubs, while suites are assigned a personal butler who is available 24/7 to cater to your every whim and fancy. If you stay here, don’t miss the award-winning Remede Spa for its Puebla Hot Stone Massage and Ocean Pearl Body Experience. And every Friday night at sunset, you may gather with other guests for a ceremonial champagne sabering – a century-old St. Regis ritual.

At Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, you’ll immediately feel the “mi-casa, su casa” vibe – the true spirit of Mexican hospitality. A place to reconnect with family and friends – and to celebrate the region’s rich culture- the stunner of a resort boasts two secluded beaches, a family-friendly Lazy River, the adults-only Tamai Pool, the infinity-edge Nuna Pool, decadent dining, plenty of watersports and even the chance to blend your own tequila! Choose from a variety of accommodations, including newly renovated modern Mexican Casita rooms and lavish one- and two-bedroom suites.

Punta Mita Insider Tips

Once you’ve settled into the pleasures of Punta Mita, consider these in-the-know activities:

Marietas Islands National Park: Take a boat out to this delightful paradise. The number of visitors is limited per day, so you’ll find plenty of room to spread out and have the opportunity to snorkel in peace. The Hidden Beach, or Playa del Amor, is tucked inside an island cavern, accessible only during low tide.

La Cruz: Watch a fabulous sunset in the fishing village of La Cruz. Stroll along La Cruz Beach or sip a cocktail from Sky Bar at La Cruz Yacht Club.

When Should I Go to Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita?

This area is at the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, making it an excellent year-round destination. Hurricanes are rare and even during the wet season (June-September), rain is usually in the evening, clearing by morning. Overall, you can expect about 345 days of sunshine per year.
